The sushi is pretty good. I got the spicy shrimp tempura and the crazy spider roll (no cucumber) and devoured both. My favorite was the crazy spider, 10/10 recommend. Just wish it had a little more sauce on top of it. The price for the two specialty rolls was cheaper than other places I have been to. This was my second time here, and the service was great the first time but really lacked this time. I ordered after my friends and got mine in less than 10 minutes, and theirs did not come out until almost 30 minutes later.

I love Hokkaido for many reasons. The sushi is bomb and reasonably priced. They provide complimentary miso soup. And the food comes out relatively quickly (this time was an exception). We came in at around 1:30pm on a Saturday, so the parking lot in the plaza was wild and packed to the brim, but we were able to find a spot. The line to order wasn't long and even though it was popping inside, there were still some open tables. I ordered the basic spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls, which came out to be less than $12. It took quite some time for the food to come out, and we had to check in with the front twice. My friend received hers maybe 10 min after ordering, and then my other friend and I got ours 25 min after her. That was almost 40 min of waiting, which is unlike Hokkaido, especially since we didn't order anything big or extra- just sushi. The first time my friend checked in on the status of our food, the lady said it would come out soon. Then after 10-15 more min had passed, I asked the lady again and let her know we had been waiting over 30 min. She seemed to be getting peeved and stated the reason why it was taking so long was because the workers in the kitchen needed to eat... as she proceeded to bring a plate to another table. Idk but today was an off day lol, can't always expect it to be perfect though! The sushi was good, just seemed to be a bit warm. Paired well with the miso soup on the side. They are very generous with the fish fillings, which is a plus! Highly recommend the crazy spider roll!!!

Quick, relatively cheap, sushi place in Chinatown! The rolls are pretty good, especially for the price. I like how they look and I like the rolls that they offer here. I personally love chawamushi and they have a good one here, but there is a good amount of spinach mixed in. The fish is good, not like the highest quality but I think good for the price. They are also huge fat slices! The salmon was good but the tuna and tai were kinda iffy for me. The udon was good, kinda just like average udon. It's a nice place to common w some friends for a quick meal. It's a seat your self place and you order at the register. They have menus and ordering slips up front where you mark what rolls/sushi you want then tell the cashier anything else you would like to order. Or I just write it on the back of the slip. They utensils, bowls, plates, sauce plates, and water are up near the register and you get them your self. They also have free complimentary miso soup up there too!

Hokkaido Sushi is the OMG food spot for its price and taste. This spot has been around since the 2000s, and I believe it is still a hidden gem. Inside, the restaurant has open seating, is clean, and has fast and friendly service. All you have to do is grab a paper menu, fill it out, and return it to the counter to order. There's also a free self-serve miso soup and red bean dessert station which are both very delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for affordable and delicious sushi! TIP: if you use the condiments at the self-serve station, please put it back after you're done as everyone else has to use those few condiments as well. FOOD REVIEW: Shaggy Dog Roll (4/5): imitation crab along with tempura and spicy mayo make for a light and tasty roll. Hawaii Volcano (5/5): spicy flavors of the tuna combined with the sweetness from the mayo, and the flavor from the tempura, all I have to say is OMG. Hand Rolls (5/5): you can't go wrong with any hand roll in my opinion. All have their differences inside such as eel, spicy tuna, tempura, etc. along with their own tasty sauces. Salmon Nigiri (5/5): generous size of nigiris. Salmon is fresh, flavor is on point, and there is a good amount of fat. Scallop Roll (5/5): yum, yum, yum. This roll has a good amount of scallops mixed with sweet and creamy sauce. Tastes absolutely amazing. Teriyaki Steak (5/5): one of the best rice dishes here. Steak is cooked perfectly, sweet teriyaki sauce is just so good, and the fresh side salad is a nice balance. Ika Geso (5/5): nicely seasoned, crispy, hot, and very tasty squid. A great appetizer to start off with. Miso Soup (5/5): the best free miso soup you will get in Houston. The soup is light but has an amazing miso flavor.

This place has always been a 5/5 for me. I brought my in a laws in here and my grandparents. This time around, I did the sashimi bento special. I would totally order this again. I forgot to take a photo but it has sashimi, cooked fish, tempura, rice, and seaweed salad. It was all the things I wanted but in a combined meal. I would order this again.

Hokkaido has been a Bellaire staple for cheap, but great sushi for years now, I'm surprised I haven't written a review for here sooner. Ever since my early high school days, everyone knows that Hokkaido is the place to go if you're craving sushi, but don't want to break your bank coming here. Service is quick, order at the counter, and they bring it to your table. Pay with cash, and you'll get a discount too. They also offer miso soup, red bean dessert, iced tea, and water included. If you're wanting hot food, I'd recommend the katsu don. Sushi wise, I like the chirashi, spicy scallop nigiri/hand rolls, eel hand roll, Hawaii volcano roll, crazy spider roll, and rainbow rolls. Ambiance wise, Hokkaido is tucked away in the corner of the shopping center. It is a very calm, unassuming restaurant. Simple, but everyone loves this place. If you haven't been before, you're really missing out on a Houston staple, enjoy!

Hokkaido was one of the first restaurants I went to my first time in Houston. So for the nostalgia I had to go back. As always the service was great. The waitress explained the order process and gave us time to order. They have unlimited miso soup available which is one of my favorite things about this place. I ordered the Agadashi tofu appetizer and it was so soft and flavorful. I also had a Chirashi bowl and shashimi. Presentation of both were very neat and eye catching. The rice in the Chirashi was a little bit sweet and sticky and paired really well with the raw fish. It's medium quality sushi and great prices. Overall it was a good lunch. I wasn't able to finish everything, but I left feeling satisfied. The restaurant has plenty of seating and is well lit with decent isle space to walk back and forth to the miso station.
